Web Design Prices

21 March 2011

They're questions we hear a lot. How much does it cost to create a website? How much does web design cost? What are average web design prices? In fact, if we had a pound for every time we were asked...

The problem is that every website we create is bepoke. Our creative work is tailored to the individual client, so costs can vary massively. In every case, we give a quote based on a thorough understanding of the project in question.

However, we do understand that it can be frustrating not to have just a ball park figure in mind whilst doing research, so offer the following web design prices as a very rough guide. As always, we do urge you to contact us to discuss your individual requirements so we can give you a specific price - it may be far less than you were anticipating!

Under £1,000

The first question should be why do you want a website? In all honesty, spending less than £1,000 on a website isn't going to drastically alter your business... if you're looking for a tool that will act as another route to market, substantially increasing your revenue (directly or indirectly), then as common sense would dictate, you need to spend more than £1,000 to stand every chance of success.

However, if you're happy not to use the internet as a major route to market, but realise you'd benefit from the odd web-based enquiry, then you may well get away with spending less than £1,000. In some cases, it may be sensible to have a 'holding' page website until you're ready to invest into a full website. Some businesses don't need a full website, but do need a one page presence to give their customers confidence in the ability to be able to make contact.

If the budget can only stretch to an amount way short of £1,000, and it's a multi-page website you're looking for, then a template DIY website is probably your only option. If this is the case you should expect to do a lot of the work yourself using one of the many pieces of software or websites out there offering DIY website templates. The bad news is that any system that allows you to build a website without any technical skills will be based on templates, and therefore will be limited in terms of its functionality. You won't be able to make specific decisions about the look & feel or how different sections work, and you'll never truely own the website, so if and when you want to make specific changes, you may well find yourself having to start from scratch. We'll happily point you in the right direction and give you a bit of advice if your budget won't stretch to our bespoke service.

The thing to remember is that "you get what you pay for". It's our job to manage expectations, and if your budget is just a few hundred pounds, then unfortunately you won't end up with a website that has all the bells & whistles.

Around £1,000

Around the £1,000 mark come small but bespoke, multi-paged websites. These websites are built in all sorts of forms to suit clients' busineses, but do of course have limited aspects to their design. Like most services in life, when you pay for a bespoke web design service, what you're really paying for is time. The longer a designer sits at a desk, the more time can be spent designing a website. Less time designing means a less elaborate and less intricate design. Nevertheless, this sort of design can suits some businesses very well, and it must be reiterated that designs are bespoke i.e. tailored to the particular business.

Around £1,500

Spending around £1,500 on a website allows the designer more time to experiment with less conventional design or look at different layouts for different content. Bespoke brochure-type websites come in all sorts of forms and focus on getting core information about the business out to the general public.

For Persona's website, a series of unique and standalone advert-style concepts were designed, and then put together with a consistent content overlay. The result is an eye-catching website that presents the key facts to visitors without bombarding them with an overwhelming amount of information. Ultimately, the pages inspire visitors to contact Persona for a more in-depth chat about their services.

£2,000 and above

We realise it's disappointing not to get the information you need straight away, but we really would need to talk to you to be able to give you a quote for a larger bespoke website.
