Stationery design is not just about the layout of various elements on a piece of A4. Other hugely important elements are the printing method, the weight and texture of the paper, and any specialist styles such as thermography or embossing. If you want to stand out in an overcrowed world of business, good stationery design can't be achieved by sticking your logo at the top and your address at the bottom and hoping for the best.
Four variations of letterhead and business cards are designed, often initially quite different in style. Once one of the four is chosen in each set, another set of four variations is designed based on that choice. And so it goes on until the stationery is considered perfect. Artwork must then be finalised for the extra elements such as compliment slips, and any personalised elements added such as names on business cards.
